A toy keyboard started it all

Last month my infant son showed some interest in music. So I’ve been researching what I can do as a parent to encourage him to explore his interest further. I learned how to play the keyboard when I was four, but I was sure that I established an interest in music much earlier.

My sister, about 10 years older than me, played an electone, a piano-like instrument. So I started playing music because I wanted to be like her.

“How did you start playing music?” I asked her today. “I was given a small white casio toy keyboard, and I couldn’t put it down. Mum then asked me if I wanted to learn to play.”

I was surprised by her answer. That toy keyboard wasn’t as significant to me, as by that time, we already had a proper piano at home.

But somehow, that random serendipity of my sister and the toy allowed me to play and enjoy music so much. I searched for a similar toy keyboard online and found some candidates. I sure hope that I can repeat the experiment with my son.
